PRINCIPLES OF SAFETY MANAGEMENT
A safety training program developed for the Safety Professional entering the 21st century,
THE PRINCIPLES OF SAFETY MANAGEMENT (PSM) program was developed by the Northeast Florida Safety Council in 1989 and later offered to and adopted by the Florida Association of Safety Councils (FASC). The PSM evolved from the need for a basic safety certification other than those offered by the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE).
As governmental safety regulations increased, more and more companies began assigning individuals to safety positions. Most new safety personnel had little or no background or formal safety training. The PSM fills this gap.
Economic factors have increased the importance of risk management functions. Protecting a company's assets from loss and unnecessary exposure requires the commitment of all employees.
PSM PROVIDES:
Aid with Worker's Compensation
Understanding of OSHA and other organizational compliance issues
Improvements for safety performance
Education designed to develop safety leadership
PSM graduates receive a broad based spectrum of loss control and safety management training covering practical applications on:
How to collect and analyze data
Proven cost reduction methods &
Implementation of job related practices applying to the workplace
Individuals desiring to complete PSM must earn a total of fifty credits from courses within a three year period (most individuals complete in one year). Forty credits must come from the thirteen CORE courses and ten from electives. Each Safety Council establishes their own elective courses to meet the needs of their respective members. Once graduated, a student must earn an additional sixteen credits every two years thereafter to maintain their certification.
The PSM, a Florida Association of Safety Council program, has been adopted by the Florida Federation of Safety, is used and recommended by state agencies such as DOT and Division of Safety.
