OSHA 510
This course is the prerequisite to the OTI 500 course. It will cover OSHA policies, procedures, and standards for the construction industry as well as safety and health principles. Each section of the OSHA Construction Standards will be covered. Special emphasis will be placed on those areas that are more hazardous, using OSHA standards as guide. OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926 Construction Safety Standard will be provided. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a Construction Safety 30-hour course completion card.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Select the appropriate OSHA standards that apply to hazard;

  • Identify elements of a successful construction safety program;

  • Identify the more frequently cited OSHA standards;
         and

  • Implement an effective recordkeeping procedure.

OSHA 500
This course is designed for persons in the private sector interested in developing safety and health programs in the construction industry. Special
emphasis will be placed on those areas in construction that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants will also
be taught effective training techniques. Participants who successfully complete the course and pass a multiple choice test will become outreach trainers, authorized to conduct both 10 and 30 hour construction courses. OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926 Construction Industry Standard will be provided.

Prerequisites: Five years relevant experience in the construction safety and health field and attendance in a week long construction safety and health course (the OTI 510) or equivalent.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Define Construction terms found in the OSHA standards;

  • Present effective safety and health training programs in accordance with OSHA’s construction standards, regulations and guidelines;

  • Identify hazards that occur in the construction industry and determine appropriate standards;

  • Prepare reports citing the conditions found; and

  • Identify methods to correct hazards.

OSHA 501

This course is designed for private sector personnel from a variety of industries to present detailed information on how the provisions of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act may be implemented in the workplace. Rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act, the appeals process, recordkeeping, and voluntary protection programs are covered. The course also includes an introduction to OSHA’s General Industry standards and an overview of the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards. Participants who successfully complete the course and pass a multiple choice test will become outreach trainers, authorized to conduct both 10 and 30 hours General Industry courses. OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standard (1900-1910.999 and 1910.000 to end) will be provided.

Prerequisites: Five years relevant experience in the General Industry safety and health field and attendance in a week long general industry safety and health course (OTI 511) or equivalent.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Locate OSHA safety and health standards, policies and procedures;

  • Describe the use of OSHA Standards and regulations to supplement an on-going safety and health program;

  • Identify common violations of OSHA standards such as lockout/tagout, walking and working surfaces, hazardous materials, and welding; and

  • Describe how to conduct internal training on OSHA regulations and recordkeeping.
